KEALAKEKUA BAY
Pu'uhonua O Honaunau
(The place of refuge)
In ancient times law breakers (Kapu) were
commonly put to death by club, strangulation, fire or spear.
If a law breaker could elude his pursuers and
make it to the Pu'uhononua (place of refuge),
the designated area of asylum, perform certain rituals
mandated by the Kahuna Pule (priest). All
would be forgiven.
