Surfing the
Island of San Cristobal
There are a hand full of quality breaks on San Cristobal.
With one right hander, Carola, being a world class wave.
Surf ranged from four foot faces up to a couple of feet
overhead. Nothing epic, though it often can be, just extremely
fun surf with no crowds. When big North swells show up surfers fly in
from as far away as Peru to surf Carola. Water temp ranged from
70 deg F to 78 deg F. The average being 75 deg F. Water was crystal clear.
All breaks were rounded lava rock. Access in and out of the water
was difficult. The best way to the surf is by panga. The waves break
with island power. The island gets great surf from the North
swells (Carola fires) and from South swells
(Tongo Reef and Loberia)
